DMX, one of the leading artists in the late ’90s and ’00s hip-hop era, has passed away at the age of 50. Before his death, the rapper had spent several days on life support in a New York hospital after experiencing cardiac arrest last week. The precise cause of his heart attack has not been confirmed and has been a matter of speculation online.
The Yonkers, NY-born rapper, whose given name was Earl Simmons, exploded onto the music scene in 1998 with his debut album, ‘It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot.’ The album landed the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 and contained one of DMX’s signature songs, ‘Ruff Ryders’ Anthem.’ In the years since, DMX released several other chart-topping albums and branched into acting with leading roles in films like ‘Cradle 2 The Grave’ and ‘Never Die Alone.’
‘Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever,’ DMX’s family said in a statement.
