The Sasol League season returns this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) with several provinces kicking off after a year of inactivity.

However, two provinces will delay their start – and have set a date of later this month, 17th of April and the 30th of April 2021 to resume action.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has received confirmation from clubs that they are ready to get the show on the road.

“I can safely confirm that we have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure that everything goes according to plan – but as it goes with events, there will be some glitches, more so now during this period of Covid-19 where a lot has to be done before teams can take to the field,” said Thomas Sadiki, Head of Competitions at SAFA.

“There are some teams that are still finalising the registration of their players as they were unable to do so due to various reasons. But we are confident that come the end of the month, barring any challenges, all the clubs will be in action.”

Eastern Cape, North West, Gauteng, Northern Cape and Limpopo are set to get the ball rolling this weekend (Saturday).

The next day, (Sunday, 11 April 2021) will be the turn of KwaZulu Natal and Mpumalanga to get in on the action.

A week later, the Free State will take to the field in their first fixtures of the season.

The last province to kickoff will be the Western Cape – on the 30th of April.
