Police in Mpumalanga Seeks Public Assistance in Reuniting Missing Elderly Man with His Family

Pankop, Mpumalanga – The Mpumalanga Police are requesting the public’s assistance in reuniting 81-year-old Joel Serame Makena with his family. Makena, who hails from the Sekwaereng section in Pankop, has been missing since Saturday, 18 May 2024.

According to available information, Makena departed from his home around noon to visit the local headman but reportedly never reached his destination. His concerned family initiated a search at approximately 14:00 on the same day, mobilising community members to assist in locating him.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Donald Mdhluli provided further details, stating, “Several search attempts by his family members and other rescue teams were conducted but unsuccessful. The only lead we have is that he was seen at a tuckshop in the nearby village of Phake Rankaila.”

At the time of his disappearance, Joel Serame Makena was wearing navy blue tracksuit pants, a top, formal black shoes, and a grey-green cap. These details are crucial in identifying him and reuniting him with his loved ones.

Colonel Mdhluli highlighted the importance of community involvement in such cases. “The Police urge anyone with information that may assist in finding Makena to contact Detective Captain Solomon Moshime of Mmametlhake SAPS on 082 065 1355 or call the Crime Stop at 08600 10111.”

Furthermore, information can also be submitted through the MySAPS App, with assurances that all received information will be treated confidentially. Callers have the option to remain anonymous, ensuring their privacy while aiding in the search effort.

The police and Makena’s family remain hopeful that with the community’s support, they will soon be able to bring Joel Serame Makena back home.
