Vaal University of Technology Launches 2026 Application Process from 9 June 2025

Vaal University of Technology

The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) has officially opened its 2026 academic year application process from Monday, 9 June 2025, inviting first-time applicants and returning senior students to begin the application journey. According to the Office of the Registrar, the university has issued a detailed circular outlining key dates, programme deadlines, application fees, and processes to be followed. This article unpacks everything prospective students—both local and international—need to know about applying for admission to one of South Africa’s most respected institutions of technology.

Early Applications Encouraged for Select Programmes

While the main application window for all first-year applicants will close on 31 October 2025, certain high-demand programmes have an earlier closing date of 31 August 2025. These include:
• Bachelor of Education in Senior Phase and FET Teaching
• Diploma in Safety Management
• Diploma in Labour Law
• Diploma in Information Technology
• Diploma in Logistics
• Diploma in Agricultural Management

Applicants interested in these programmes are urged to submit their applications well in advance of the August deadline, as late submissions will not be accepted.

Online Application Process Through ITS Infinity Portal

All applications must be submitted through the ITS Infinity Applications Management portal, which can be accessed via the VUT website at https://www.vut.ac.za/apply-to-vut.

The system is designed to simplify the process by automatically matching applicants’ final matric results to the qualifications they are eligible for. This is particularly helpful for first-time applicants who may be unsure about which programmes they qualify for.

Special Process for TVET College Applicants

For applicants applying with results from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges, the process includes an extra step. Once the online application has been submitted, applicants must email the relevant administrative personnel associated with the department offering the selected programme. This ensures that applications are processed accurately and efficiently.

Offers Based on Matric Results and Admission Criteria

Applicants who have already completed Grade 12 and meet the minimum admission requirements will receive conditional offers. However, as the university emphasises:

“Be reminded that registration is and will always be on a first-come, first-served basis. Spaces are limited to the quota set per programme. Therefore, the acceptance of an offer does not automatically guarantee registration.”

This means that students must act quickly once they receive an offer to ensure they secure their place in the programme of their choice.

Choosing Between Mainstream and Extended Diplomas

If an applicant qualifies for both the Mainstream and Extended Diploma based on their matric results, the university recommends selecting the Mainstream programme as the first choice. This is because the Mainstream option is generally preferred for students who meet all academic thresholds and are prepared for full-time university-level study without the need for academic support or foundational modules.

Senior Applicants: Postgraduate and Advanced Programmes

Applications for senior students, including those applying for Advanced Diplomas, Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s degrees, and PhDs, will open on 18 June 2025. Closing dates for these programmes will be announced later in the year. Prospective senior applicants are encouraged to monitor the VUT website and official communication platforms regularly for updates.

Application Fee Details for the 2026 Academic Year

A non-refundable application fee of R110 is required for all applicants—whether applying locally or internationally. The fee is mandatory and must be paid each academic year in which an application is made. As the Registrar explains:

“The application handling/administration fee is required on an annual basis as the payment is done for each academic year in which an application is made.”

Payment Details

Applicants are required to make the payment to the following designated VUT account:
• Bank: ABSA
• Account Holder: Vaal University of Technology
• Account Number: 530 861 945
• Branch Code: 632005
• Account Type: Cheque Account

Payment Reference Instructions

• National Applicants must use their Identity Number or Student Number as the payment reference.
• International Applicants must use their Passport Number or Student Number.

“DO NOT USE ANY OTHER INFORMATION AS A REFERENCE” – VUT Registrar’s Office.

Applications will only be processed once the application fee has been paid and reflected in the university’s account. Failure to follow the correct reference format may lead to unnecessary delays in the processing of an application.

What to Expect After Submitting Your Application

Once the application has been submitted and the fee has been successfully paid, the university’s system will process the application and automatically assess eligibility based on the applicant’s results and the programme requirements.

Successful applicants will receive a provisional offer, which remains subject to the availability of space and final verification of qualifications. Importantly, VUT makes it clear that:

“The acceptance of an offer does not automatically guarantee registration.”

This highlights the importance of early action by students once they receive their provisional offer.

Tips for a Smooth Application Process

To ensure a smooth and successful application process, prospective students are advised to:
• Apply as early as possible, especially for high-demand programmes with the 31 August 2025 deadline.
• Pay the application fee promptly and use the correct reference number.
• Keep a copy of the proof of payment and submitted application for personal records.
• Monitor the email address used during the application regularly for feedback from the university.
• Ensure that all academic documents, including Grade 12 certificates or TVET transcripts, are uploaded and legible.

VUT’s Commitment to Fair and Transparent Admissions

The Vaal University of Technology prides itself on offering fair, transparent, and equitable access to higher education opportunities. By providing clear guidelines, flexible options for TVET applicants, and matching applicants to programmes via the ITS system, VUT continues to lead the way in student-focused innovation.

With programmes in engineering, applied sciences, humanities, education, management sciences and technology, VUT remains a preferred institution for thousands of South African and international students seeking practical, career-focused qualifications.

A Call to Action for 2026 Applicants

As South Africa faces increasing demand for access to quality higher education, the opening of the 2026 application cycle marks an important opportunity for aspiring learners to take the next step in their academic journey.

Whether you’re a Grade 12 learner, a TVET college graduate, or a prospective postgraduate student, VUT offers a wide range of programmes, state-of-the-art facilities, and a supportive learning environment to help you achieve your goals.
