Shebeshxt’s Bail Hearing Postponed Amid Chaos: Musician Faces Upgraded Schedule 6 Charges in Polokwane Court
Popular Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, better known as Shebeshxt, will spend more time behind bars after his bail application was postponed during his third appearance at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 21 November 2025.
The 30-year-old artist, facing serious allegations stemming from a shooting incident last month, saw his case delayed to Tuesday, 25 November 2025, as his defence team requested more time to prepare.
The matter has been upgraded from a Schedule 5 to a Schedule 6 offence due to pending cases in another court, making it tougher for him to secure release. Outside the courtroom, chaos erupted as passionate fans clashed with security in a bid to enter, highlighting the star’s strong following amid his legal troubles.
This development has left many of Shebeshxt’s supporters disappointed, with some spreading false reports of his release on bail. For the musician, known for his hit tracks and energetic performances, the case underscores the challenges of fame intersecting with legal issues, while raising questions about accountability in the entertainment world.
The Shooting Incident: What Led to the Charges
The charges against Shebeshxt date back to an early morning altercation on 19 October 2025 along Witklip Street in Ladanna, outside Polokwane. According to court details, the complainant and a friend were driving when they spotted the musician and greeted him as fans. Shebeshxt allegedly responded aggressively, saying “Kgane aletlale ka nna?” before firing shots at their vehicle. One bullet struck the complainant in the jaw, shattering the Nissan vehicle’s window and causing serious injury. The witness rushed the victim to Polokwane Provincial Hospital for treatment.
This led to his arrest on 12 November 2025 and initial charges of attempted murder, malicious damage to property, and possession of an unlicensed firearm. During his first court appearance, these were formalised, and he was remanded in custody. The state alleges the firearm was unlicensed, adding to the severity of the case. The incident has shocked fans, with videos and eyewitness accounts circulating online showing the aftermath of the confrontation.
Court Proceedings: From Schedule 5 to Schedule 6
Shebeshxt’s third appearance on Friday was meant to address his bail application, but it hit a snag. National Prosecuting Authority Limpopo spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhagi explained that while the state was ready to proceed, the defence needed more time. “They told the court that there are some other issues they need to revisit on their side. He’s no longer facing a schedule 5, but a schedule 6 offence, because we have found that he has other matters from Lebowakgomo,” Malabi-Dzhagi said.
Under South Africa’s Criminal Procedure Act, a Schedule 6 offence involves serious violence, such as any crime with elements of intimidation, force, or firearms that cause harm. For bail, the accused must prove exceptional circumstances warranting release, a higher bar than Schedule 5. This upgrade stems from unrelated pending charges in Lebowakgomo, making his path to freedom more challenging.
The matter was postponed to 25 November 2025 for a formal bail hearing, with Shebeshxt remaining in custody. Misinformation spread quickly online, with some claiming he was granted R5,000 bail, but court officials confirmed he is still detained.
Pending Cases in Lebowakgomo: Additional Charges Loom
The Schedule 6 classification arises from other serious allegations against Shebeshxt in the Lebowakgomo Regional Court. These include two counts of attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and malicious injury to property. That trial is scheduled for 17 to 19 February 2026, where he was previously out on R5,000 bail.
Details of these cases remain limited, but they add weight to the current proceedings, painting a picture of repeated legal troubles for the artist. This has led to speculation about patterns in his behaviour, with some fans defending him as a victim of circumstances, while others call for accountability.
Fan Chaos Outside Court: Supporters Cause Stir
The court appearance drew a large crowd of Shebeshxt’s die-hard fans, leading to chaotic scenes outside the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court. Supporters pushed and shoved, desperate to enter the gallery and show solidarity. Videos captured the frenzy, with some fans trying to force their way in, prompting security to intervene.
Popular figures in the Limpopo music scene, such as Hitboss, Naqua, Kaycherlow, and Maflower, attended to back the musician. One supporter, Kwenisto Makgakga, urged calm: “Fans should support the musician peacefully.” The disorder delayed proceedings slightly but did not affect the outcome inside.
This outpouring reflects Shebeshxt’s strong fanbase, built on his lekompo music hits and relatable persona. However, it also shows the emotional toll of his legal battles on supporters, many of whom see him as a symbol of success from humble beginnings.
Shebeshxt’s Background: From Rising Star to Legal Battles
Born Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke in Limpopo, Shebeshxt rose to fame with his unique blend of lekompo and amapiano music, gaining millions of streams on tracks like “Twerka” and “Ambulance.” His raw lyrics and energetic style have made him a favourite in township scenes, but his career has been marred by controversies, including previous brushes with the law.
Before this incident, Shebeshxt faced public scrutiny for a tragic car accident in June 2025 that claimed his daughter’s life and injured others. That event, coupled with these charges, has painted a complex picture of a talented artist grappling with personal and legal demons. Fans hope for his release to continue his music, but the serious nature of the offences suggests a long road ahead.
