Marumo Gallants FC

Durban, KwaZulu-Natal – Marumo Gallants FC has confirmed a minor road incident involving their team bus on Saturday evening, 2 November 2025, while travelling from Moses Mabhida Stadium to their hotel in Durban. The accident occurred following the club’s 4-0 defeat to Golden Arrows in a Betway Premiership fixture, with the bus sustaining a light bump from behind in a three-car pile-up. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, and all players, technical staff, and personnel on board are safe and in good condition.
The club issued a statement on Sunday, 3 November 2025, expressing relief and gratitude for the prompt response from local authorities and emergency services. “We are thankful that all our players and staff are safe. The incident was minor, and we appreciate the prompt response from local authorities and emergency services who ensured everyone’s safety,” the statement read.
Details of the Incident and Immediate Aftermath
The collision happened as part of a chain reaction on a Durban road, where a private vehicle was pushed forward and lightly bumped the rear of the team bus. Eyewitness accounts and social media videos showed the bus stopped at the scene, with emergency responders attending promptly. A maroon VW was reportedly involved, colliding with the bus from behind, but the impact was minimal, causing no major damage or harm.
Club management confirmed that everyone escaped unharmed, stating: “Club management has expressed relief and gratitude that everyone involved escaped unharmed.” The team proceeded to their hotel without further issues, and no medical treatment was required beyond initial checks at the scene.
This is not the first time a South African football team has faced road incidents. In September 2025, Orlando Pirates reported a traffic accident involving club members, though details were limited. Such events underscore the risks of road travel for teams, especially after evening matches in busy urban areas.
Match Context: Heavy Loss to Golden Arrows
The incident capped a tough day for Marumo Gallants, who suffered a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Golden Arrows in their Premiership clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Goals from Arrows players dominated the game, leaving Gallants reeling and highlighting ongoing struggles in their campaign. The defeat marks another setback for the Bahlabane Ba Ntwa, who are fighting to climb the league table.
Despite the loss, the club remains focused on upcoming fixtures. They will stay in Durban for the week to prepare for their match against Durban City on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, followed by the Carling Knockout Cup semi-final on Sunday, 9 November 2025.
Club’s Response and Appreciation for Support
In their statement, Marumo Gallants praised the quick intervention by authorities: “We appreciate the prompt response from local authorities and emergency services who ensured everyone’s safety.” The club also reassured fans that the team is in high spirits and ready for the battles ahead.
Media contact Sello Nduna provided details, confirming the minor nature of the incident and the team’s continued preparations. Supporters flooded social media with messages of relief, with one fan posting: “Glad everyone is safe after that scary bus incident.”
