Mamello Thamae
The Regional Court Magistrate, Mamello Thamae from Heilbron in the Free State, has been found dead in a Lesotho guesthouse. The distressing news comes after Mamello and her husband Lehlohonolo Maketoane were reported missing on Friday.
According to police reports, Mamello returned home from work on Thursday, September 21, 2023. However, at around 4:00 am, her car reportedly left the premises, leaving behind her husband’s clothes and cellphone. Mamello’s clothes and cellphone were found at home, intensifying concerns over their sudden disappearance.
Authorities have been tirelessly searching for the couple since they were reported missing. Local police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle disclosed that the couple’s silver Kia Sportage with registration number HYT 809 FS, was suspected to have crossed the Ficksburg Port of Entry into Lesotho. This suspicion led the police to a guesthouse in Mokgotlong, where the vehicle was eventually found.
In a heart-wrenching revelation, Captain Earle informed the public that Mamello’s lifeless body was discovered in the boot of the car by her husband. The husband, Lehlohonolo, was subsequently taken into custody and now awaits extradition to South Africa, where he may face charges of murder and kidnapping.
