Kaizer Chiefs has recently announced the appointment of Cavin Johnson as their new head of Academy. Johnson, who previously served as the assistant coach of Al Ahly, will now oversee the Club’s youth academy and scouting network.

This strategic move aims to strengthen the Club’s commitment to developing young talent and instilling the Kaizer Chiefs philosophy throughout every level of the organization.

Kaizer Motaung Jr., the Amakhosi Sporting Director, expressed his excitement about Johnson’s appointment, stating that the coach brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will propel the Academy programs and scouting network forward.

By implementing an elite development model, the Club aims to achieve sustainable success in the future.

Johnson’s coaching journey began at the Transnet School of Excellence, where he worked as a junior coach and had the opportunity to mentor talented individuals such as Dillon Sheppard, the current assistant coach of Kaizer Chiefs.

With his UEFA professional coaching license and extensive experience in youth football, Johnson has acquired coaching licenses from CAF, the Dutch Football Association, and the Brazilian CBF.

The 64-year-old coach also served as the Director of the Royal Bafokeng Sports Academy from 2008 to 2012, contributing to the development of the Platinum Stars academy.

Furthermore, he has held coaching positions at Platinum Stars, SuperSport United, AmaZulu, and Black Leopards. Johnson’s time as an assistant to Pitso Mosimane at Al Ahly proved instrumental in shaping his understanding of the demands and expectations of a big club, winning two CAF Champions League titles in 2020 and 2021.

Most recently, Johnson was assisting NB La Masia, a team in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Now, he eagerly looks forward to taking on the crucial role of leading the youth and scouting departments at one of the most prestigious football clubs on the African continent.

Johnson sees joining Kaizer Chiefs as an opportunity to contribute his extensive experience from over two decades of working with youth.

In his new position, Johnson aims to unearth and develop the next generation of talented players, hoping to find future stars who can don the iconic Kaizer Chiefs jersey.

He expresses his gratitude to the Chairman, Bobby Motaung, Kaizer Jr., Jessica, and Kemiso for the opportunity to join such a renowned organization.
