Former Kaizer Chiefs Star Tebogo Potsane Returns to Bloemfontein with Siwelele FC

Tebogo Potsane has been confirmed as a new Siwelele FC player. A reunion with his former coach at Bloemfontein Celtic, Lehlohonolo Seema.

Potsane’s Departure from Chiefs and New Chapter at Siwelele

Tebogo Potsane, the 31-year-old winger, has officially joined Siwelele FC on a one-year contract as a free agent after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs. The announcement came on Friday, 29 August 2025, marking a sentimental return to Bloemfontein, where he began his professional career with Bloemfontein Celtic. Potsane will wear the number 16 jersey for his new team, reuniting with coach Lehlohonolo Seema, under whom he thrived during his Celtic days.

Potsane’s time at Chiefs, which started in 2023 after a R3 million move from Royal AM, ended amicably but without the impact many expected. Over two seasons, he made 41 appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists, but injuries and competition limited his role. Chiefs released him in July 2025 as part of a squad overhaul under new coach Nasreddine Nabi, who sought players fitting his style.

Potsane expressed gratitude to Chiefs, wishing them well for the future.

Siwelele FC, formerly known as the club that acquired SuperSport United’s PSL status in July 2025, welcomed Potsane as part of their squad-building for the 2025/26 season. The team, nicknamed after Bloemfontein Celtic’s famous chant, aims to compete in the Betway Premiership with a mix of experience and youth. Potsane’s signing adds flair to their attack, alongside recent additions like Siphelele Luthuli.

Reunion with Coach Seema and Potsane’s Career Highlights

The move reunites Potsane with Lehlohonolo Seema, his former coach at Bloemfontein Celtic, where he made his name as a speedy winger with an eye for goal. Under Seema, Potsane enjoyed some of his best form, helping Celtic in cup runs and league campaigns. Seema, now at Siwelele, sees Potsane as key to revitalising his career, providing familiarity in a new setup.

Born on 3 September 1993 in Bloemfontein, Potsane rose through Celtic’s ranks, debuting in 2013 and becoming a fan favourite. He later moved to Free State Stars, then Royal AM in 2021, where he impressed enough for Chiefs to sign him. His career stats include over 150 PSL appearances, with 15 goals and numerous assists, showcasing his dribbling and crossing skills.

Potsane’s return to his hometown club offers a chance to rebuild after a tough Chiefs stint marked by injuries. Fans have welcomed the news, seeing it as a homecoming for a local talent eager to prove his worth in the Premiership.

Siwelele FC’s Ambitions and Squad Building

Siwelele FC, owned by a consortium linked to political figures like Gayton McKenzie, acquired SuperSport’s status to enter the top flight. Under Seema, the team has signed players like George Matlou and others to blend experience with youth. Potsane’s addition strengthens the wings, complementing their attacking options for a competitive debut season.

The club aims to honour Celtic’s legacy while building a new identity. Seema’s familiarity with Potsane could spark a revival, helping Siwelele avoid relegation and target mid-table stability.
