Collen Mashawana Foundation Brings Dignity and Hope with New Home for Ntate Kgabo in Tshwane

The Collen Mashawana Foundation (CMF) has handed over a brand-new, fully furnished home to 71-year-old Ntate Vincent Kgabo in Ramotse, Hammanskraal, Tshwane. The event on Friday, 31 October 2025, marked another step in the foundation’s ongoing work to uplift those in need, using quick and green building methods. This gift not only gives Ntate Kgabo a safe place to live but also stands as a sign of hope for many facing hard times in South Africa. With partners from government and business joining in, the handover shows how working together can change lives and build stronger communities.

A Joyful Ceremony Filled with Emotion

The handover was a happy yet touching moment, with hundreds of local people coming together to celebrate. Ntate Kgabo, who has faced tough living conditions for years, now has a home that offers comfort and security. The crowd cheered as the keys were given over, highlighting the real difference such acts make in everyday lives.

The foundation stressed that this house is more than just walls and a roof – it is a fresh start. Built in just one week, it shows how new ways of building can solve housing problems fast. The event brought smiles and tears, as community members shared stories of struggle and the joy of seeing one of their own get help.

Ntate Kgabo’s Long Struggle for a Safe Home

For more than 20 years, Ntate Vincent Kgabo has lived in a run-down shack that leaked during rains and offered little shield from the cold. At 71, he has dealt with harsh weather and unsafe conditions in Hammanskraal, a place where many face similar hardships. His story came to light after locals reached out for help, leading the foundation to step in.

Dr Collen Mashawana visited Ntate Kgabo’s site to check on the building work, showing the hands-on care the foundation gives. This handover is part of a bigger push to help elderly folks, disaster victims, and those with disabilities across South Africa. Ntate Kgabo’s new two-bedroom home now gives him dignity and peace, ending years of worry.

Innovative Building Technology Speeds Up Change

The home was put up using Alternative Building Technology (ABT), a smart way to build that is quick, cheap, and kind to the earth. ABT uses light materials and new methods to cut down on waste and energy use, making it perfect for fast housing needs. In South Africa, where many wait years for homes, ABT helps close the gap by building strong houses in days.

This method also brings in women and local workers, creating jobs and skills in the process. The foundation noted how ABT shows what can be done when ideas meet action, proving that modern tools can deliver safe, lasting homes without breaking the bank.

The Foundation’s Wider Work in South Africa

The Collen Mashawana Foundation has been changing lives for 13 years as an African-based group focused on helping those hit by disasters and poverty. Founded by entrepreneur and giver Collen Mashawana, who also leads Afribiz Invest, the foundation has built homes, given social support, and backed nation-building across the country.

Just weeks before, on 13 October 2025, they handed over a home to the Shabangu family in Hammanskraal, showing their steady work in the area. The group has rebuilt after floods in KwaZulu-Natal and helped many more, always aiming to restore hope and pride. Their efforts go beyond houses, touching education, health, and community growth, making them a key player in South Africa’s upliftment.

Key Partners Make It All Possible

This project would not have happened without strong teamwork. The foundation thanked the Department of Human Settlements, City of Tshwane, National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC), Afribiz Invest, Steel World, and the South African Women in Construction and the Built Environment (SAWIC & BE). These groups brought skills, funds, and support to make the build fast and top-notch.

Women played a big role, from planning to building, showing how the foundation pushes for equal chances in work. This partnership model helps spread the impact, bringing in government and business to tackle housing shortages together.
