In a recently leaked audio recording, former President Jacob Zuma, now leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, firmly rejected the African National Congress’s (ANC) proposal for the MK Party to join the Government of National Unity (GNU). In the recording, Zuma criticizes the ANC’s leadership, referring to them as “recruited enemies” and expressing concerns about the inclusion of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the GNU. 
Zuma’s Rejection of the GNU Proposal
The audio, reportedly from a closed meeting of the MK Party’s National High Command in Durban, reveals Zuma’s apprehensions about the ANC’s overtures. He alleges that the ANC, in collaboration with the DA, aims to consolidate power in a manner that could undermine the country’s economic stability. 
Zuma states, “We cannot work with recruited enemies within the ANC,” suggesting that elements within the ANC have been co-opted to serve interests contrary to the party’s original mission. His dismissal as Deputy President by then-President Thabo Mbeki in 2005, following corruption allegations, marked the beginning of a protracted power struggle within the party.
