Zimbabwean Mayor Jacob Gwature
Bindura Town Council Mayor, Jacob Gwature (39), and his accomplice, Jonathan Kapasi (49), have been apprehended by the Zimbabwe Police following their alleged involvement in a fraud case worth US$6,970 (R130 715,66)
Bindura, located in the province of Mashonaland Central, Zimbabwe, became the center of attention as the authorities unveiled the unlawful activities of Mayor Gwature and his associate Kapasi.
The Zimbabwe Police revealed that the suspects, operating under the guise of their company Pamhodzi Rainbow Network in Zimbabwe, accepted payment of £5,000 (US$6,970) from the United Kingdom-based charity, Kitchen Table Charities Trust. In exchange, they were contracted to drill a borehole and install a solar system at stand number 1305 Budiriro 1, Harare.
“Kitchen Table Charities Trust engaged the suspects in January 2021 to drill a borehole and install a solar system to power the borehole at stand number 1305 Budiriro 1, Harare through their purported company, Pamhodzi Rainbow Network in Zimbabwe. Misheck Mlambo (38), representing Kitchen Table Charities Trust, deposited the money into the suspects’ local bank account. However, the suspects subsequently withdrew the funds and failed to fulfill their agreed-upon obligations,” stated Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.
Upon discovering the deception, a formal complaint was lodged with the police, which culminated in the arrest of Gwature and Kapasi.
Both suspects have already made a court appearance and have been remanded in custody until 26 September 2023, when a bail application will be considered.
