Former eThekwini mayor Zandile Gumede and 21 co-accused are expected back in the High Court in Durban on Tuesday. The charges against them include fraud, corruption and racketeering.

The amended indictment was served when Gumede, former eThekwini municipal manager – Sipho Nzuza, four councillors and eight business people appeared in court last year.

The case stems from a Durban Solid Waste tender of over R400 million in 2017.

The amended indictment of 397 pages now contains 2 793 charges. It now lists Gumede as accused number one, followed by former councillor Mondli Mthembu as accused two, with Nzuza.

The previous indictment had listed municipal official Robert Abbu as accused number one, amongst the alleged key role players.
