By Thys Khiba – The Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) national secretary Tinyiko Ntini linked an ever growing rate of unemployment in South Africa to ‘the neo-liberal path’ which he believes that the country took.

While delivering the ylcsa message to the SACP 15th national congress, Ntini blamed ‘neo-liberal’ policy regime that the governing party adopted.

“To address the crisis of skyrocketing youth unemployment, including the massive problem of young people who are neither in employment not education and training, will need a united front in rolling back the neo-liberal policy regime,” said Ntini.

Ntini suggested that the transformation of the inherently neo-liberal national treasury must be confronted by communist party.

Young communists believes that the Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan is a blueprint neo-liberalism which will not help them to recover.

“The youth of this country can no longer tolerate the two malfunctions confronting the current epoch. It is a fact that 1 in every 2 young people in this country are unemployed,” said Ntini.

As the national secretary of the young communists, Ntini indicated that the country need a radical industrialisation agenda that will create employment opportunities.

In the North West province, young communists said the country is sitting on a ticking time-tomb of growing youth unemployment.

According to the provincial secretary of YCLSA Tsietsi Letsebe, this may lead to the collapse of the country.

Meanwhile, the young communists believes that the power utility Eskom’s energy challenges are ‘man-made.’

Speaking at the SACP congress in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, said part of the problem is to place Eskom under the department of public enterprises led by minister Pravin Gordhan.

“It is our belief that the ongoing loadshedding is man-made and exacerbated by lack of leadership at the power utility.

We wish to lobby this congress to come clean on this matter and demand heads to roll in the entity, including the Ministry of Public Enterprises, which hasn’t been effective but (is) rather a propeller for privatisation,” said Ntini.
