By Thys Khiba – The Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) national secretary Tinyiko Ntini has announced the appointment of Mzwandile Thakhudi as their new national spokesperson.
This comes after the resignation of their spokesperson Dloze Matoaane.
“The meeting appreciated and thanked the former spokesperson for his dedication and further wished him well for his future endeavours,” said Ntini.
Speaking to Free State Central News, Thakhudi said he is delighted to serve his party and appreciate the confidence expressed by his national committee in trusting him to be the suitable candidate for this position.
“This is because, as the youth wing of the vanguard party-the SACP, we’re aware that the ruling ideas are those of the ruling class in a capitalist society like our own and they are worth contesting in all the key sites of struggle like the media (printed and digital), academia, legislature and judiciary, economy etc. I also deeply appreciate the confidence expressed by the National Committee to bestow such a mammoth responsibility for me to discharge in our collective interest in pursued for the struggle of socialism in our lifetime,” said Thakhudi.
The Yclsa national committee held a two-day meeting discussing their political and organizational reports, the financial report.
The meeting was also attended by the Department of Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi.
Speaking about what took place in Rustenburg on May Day, Thakhudi said this is alarming since the World bank inequality report was recently issued and reveals that inequality is rife in SA than any other country in the entire globe.
“…in its nature May Day belongs to the workers and in this case the workers took charge of their events to ensure their success. They did so by demonstrating their displeasure with the silence of the 6th administration on their plight in Sibanye Still water for the employer’s reluctance to heed to their demand of R1000 salary increment and the subsequent bonus offer of over R300million to Neil Froneman the company CEO,” said Thakhudi.
Youth Unemployment
The committee discussed and is concerned by the escalating Youth unemployment rate in the country.
“The meeting lamented the seemingly anti-workers policy paradigm and attitude by the 6th administration that seeks to reverse the gains of the NDR by intensification of the neoliberal policies and programmes,” said Thakhudi.
The Yclsa committee advised Nxesi to convene an urgent employment summit in the context of the right to work.
“The YCLSA also noted the high drop out rate due to lack of effective student support services and exclusionist policies by various institutions of higher learning as factors that deepen youth unemployability as the greatest contribution to our unemployment is informed by structural unemployment informed by lack of skills or skills mismatch,” said Thakhudi.
