KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed that 31-year-old white man Martin Kassier, who’s accused of knocking over and killing three young women, was drunk when the incident occurred in February. Blood samples have proven that he was driving under the influence of alcohol. It has also come to light that Kassier was involved in a collision with a Quantum in August 2024 in which two people died.
Incident Overview
In February 2025, a tragic incident unfolded on the roads of KwaZulu-Natal when 31-year-old Martin Kassier allegedly drove his vehicle into three young women, resulting in their untimely deaths. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, prompting an immediate investigation by local authorities.
Subsequent blood tests confirmed that Kassier was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. This revelation has intensified public outrage and raised concerns about road safety and the enforcement of traffic laws in the province.
Previous Collision in August 2024
Further investigations have uncovered that Kassier was involved in a prior fatal collision in August 2024. In this incident, he collided with a Toyota Quantum minibus taxi, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. Details surrounding this earlier crash are still emerging, but it has been confirmed that Kassier was a party to the fatal incident.
The recurrence of fatal incidents involving Kassier has prompted questions about legal oversight and the measures in place to prevent repeat offenses by individuals with a history of dangerous driving.
Legal Proceedings and Charges
Following the February 2025 incident, Kassier was arrested and charged with culpable homicide and drunken driving. He appeared in court and was granted bail set at R10,000. Since then, he has been attending court proceedings as required.
Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda stated, “Investigations will continue, and because it is a prosecution-guided investigation, we also get guidance from the prosecution as to what steps we need to follow as police. But as things stand for now, we are investigating a case of culpable homicide, of which he has been appearing at court for, and also a charge of drunken driving after blood samples showed that he was driving over the limit of the required alcohol level.”
Kassier’s next court appearance is scheduled for 26 June 2025. Authorities have indicated that if the case escalates from culpable homicide to murder, it could significantly impact the legal proceedings and Kassier’s bail status.
