When Criminals Advise Commanders — The Stuart Sharrick Paradox

South Africa has reached a point where the lines between right and wrong are no longer blurred — they have been deliberately erased. We now live in an era where a man with 18 criminal convictions can boldly step into the public arena and claim knowledge of the law, lecture society on credibility, and even advise or associate with high-ranking police officials.

The name Stuart James Sharrick is not new to the world of crime and deception. His rap sheet — eighteen convictions ranging from theft to carjacking — is a biography of habitual criminal conduct. Yet, astonishingly, he now seeks to sanitize his record by asserting that he is “not a bodyguard” but rather “a man who knows a thing or two about law.”

One must pause and ask: what kind of country allows a man who could not even defend himself successfully in a court of law to suddenly assume the posture of a legal advisor to a police general and a deputy Commissioner? What twisted theatre of absurdity is this?

Sharrick’s claim that he has “lent” General Sibiya a bulletproof car for security purposes further insults our collective intelligence. How does a man convicted multiple times for selling stolen vehicles end up in possession of a bulletproof vehicle — and conveniently “lends” it to a police general? If irony were a crime, this would be the most serious charge of them all.

The troubling part of this saga is not just Sharrick’s audacity, but the institutional tolerance that enables such characters to find comfort near the corridors of power. If indeed this man moves within SAPS circles, then the credibility of the police leadership is under moral siege. The idea that convicted criminals can provide “legal advice” or logistical support to serving generals is not just an embarrassment — it is a national security threat.

This country fought to free itself from the chains of injustice, corruption, and moral decay. Yet here we are, decades later, watching as the guardians of the law fraternize with its violators. A man who should be in Kokstad prison is now walking around as a self-styled legal mind and protector of generals. This is not transformation — this is infiltration.

It is time for serious introspection within the South African Police Service. General Sibiya must account for who allowed this man access, who endorsed his proximity, and who continues to protect his involvement. Every minute that Sharrick remains uninvestigated is a minute that tarnishes the entire justice system.

Our Republic cannot afford to normalize criminality disguised as consultancy, or accept ex-convicts as “security specialists” to our national commanders. When the guardians of the law begin to rely on those who once broke it, then the very soul of justice is under threat.

Sharrick’s record disqualifies him from the moral right to advise, represent, or even enter the same room as the custodians of national security. A man who has stolen cars cannot lend bulletproof ones; a man who has served convictions cannot rewrite the law; and a man who has failed to defend himself in court cannot pretend to be a legal scholar.

The law must now respond — not selectively, not politically, but decisively.
South Africa must not be reduced to a playground where criminals and commanders exchange favors under the guise of friendship or advice.

If this nation still has a spine, then Stuart James Sharrick should be in Kokstad prison, and every official who entertained his company must answer for it.

We cannot heal a broken nation by appointing the very hands that broke it as its healers.
