This major operation involved the collaboration of Border Police, Customs, and other law enforcement agencies to verify the illicit goods, the cigarettes. The swift response from the Anti Economical Infrastructure Task Team and Provincial Extortion Task Team led to the interception of the cargo truck near the Joostenberg Weighbridge on the N1.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk stated that the interception took place on Sunday morning, November 5th, 2023, at approximately 10:30.

The information received about the cargo truck transporting illicit goods from Johannesburg to Cape Town was quickly operationalized, leading to the successful joint operation.

The two people arrested will be making a court appearance at Paarl Magistrates Court in the near future.
