Welkom Police Release Identikit of Suspect in Alleged Kidnapping and Rape Case

Identikit of Suspect

The Welkom Police have recently released an identikit of a suspect wanted for the alleged kidnapping and rape of an 18-year-old high school learner. The incident is said to have occurred on the 24th of May 2023 in Welkom.

According to Captain Stephen Thakeng, the learner was waiting for a taxi near CTM, close to the tuckshop in Koppie Alleen Road, when a light blue Toyota Tazz stopped next to her. The driver of the vehicle inquired about her destination, to which she responded that she was heading towards the four-way stop between Rastas and Mphatlalatsane in Thabong. Intriguingly, she also noticed an older female sitting in the front passenger seat.

As the journey progressed, the passenger in the front seat insisted on alighting from the vehicle, leaving only the high school learner inside. The driver then diverted from the expected path and drove towards the direction of Kingdom Academy. After passing the Shell garage, he stopped at an open field beside the road.

The suspect, described as having an old scar on his right cheek, medium to thin dreadlocks, and brown complexion, covered the victim’s face with a black cloth and proceeded to commit the heinous crime of rape. Following the ordeal, the victim was dropped off in Muizen Street, Welkom CBD.

The police are seeking any information on the suspect matching the provided description. Detective Constable Malearongwa Mokoena of the Welkom Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit is leading the investigation. They can be contacted on cellphone number 0677 03 0610 or through Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
