Welkom Police Arrests Four Suspects in Dealing with Drugs

Welkom Police

The Welkom Public Order Police Unit has recently made significant strides in the fight against drug trafficking in the Welkom area. Four suspects have been apprehended in a recent operation aimed at ridding the streets of drugs and protecting the youth from the harmful effects of substance abuse.

According to Police Spokesperson, Warrant Officer Mmako Mophiring, this operation was initiated in response to the increasing prevalence of nyaope, a brutal drug that has been wreaking havoc in communities.

The Welkom Public Order Police Unit, known for their excellent work and valued by the community, received crucial information from local residents about drug dealers in the area.

The operation began in Phuthaditjhaba, where the police team first targeted a house in Slovo Park. A 26-year-old suspect was found in possession of 46 sachets of nyaope, a staggering quantity.

The team then moved on to Sebokeng Village, where a 27-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were arrested with 59 sachets of the drug and cash in their possession.

The team’s final stop was at Setsing Shopping Complex, near the filling station, where they apprehended a 30-year-old man found with 44 sachets of nyaope.

These four suspects will soon appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate court to face charges of dealing in drugs.
