Vusi Khoza Encourages Use of EFF Buses to Attend Alternative Ngizwe Mchunu Festival

Expelled EFF Member Vusi Khoza

Vusi Khoza, the expelled former leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in KwaZulu-Natal, is orchestrating a counter-campaign against the party’s manifesto launch at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban today.

Khoza is calling on people to use the EFF’s transport means to attend the alternative Sivula Unyaka Festival, hosted by Ngizwe Mchunu, at Gugu Dlamini Park.

Despite being ousted from the party, Khoza has shown little sign of stepping aside quietly. Instead, he appears to be leveraging his influence to undermine the official EFF event scheduled for today. Khoza aims to redirect attendees to the cultural festival organized by Mchunu, known as the self-proclaimed president of Amabhinca which is alleged to be funded by the ANC in Kwazulu Natal.

Khoza explained his strategy on social media, urging supporters to board buses provided by the EFF and arrive in Durban. “This is where we are going to be tomorrow. Free buses all over. Get on the bus, jump off at Moses Mabhida. Take a walk to Gugu Dlamini Park, eWorkshop. Enjoy with AmaBhinca at the Carnival. In the afternoon, walk to Mabhida, catch your bus back home,” declared Khoza.

The political drama unfolds following EFF’s announcement on Friday, 20 October 2023, that it had expelled Khoza along with more than 60 other party leaders. The expulsions came after the leaders failed to fulfill their duties in arranging buses for supporters to attend the EFF’s 10th-anniversary celebrations at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg earlier in July.

Commenting on the situation, a political analyst Bongani Moloi, said, “Khoza’s actions seem like a desperate attempt to remain relevant after being expelled from the EFF. His call for a boycott could polarize supporters and create an aura of unpredictability around the EFF event. However, it remains to be seen how much impact this defiance will actually have on the ground.”
