Vaal Central Water Board Welcomes New Board of Directors

Vaal Central Water Board

The Vaal Central Water Board has recently announced its full support for the newly appointed Board of Directors. The 12-member board, led by Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu, is set to begin its tenure on October 1, 2023, after an exhaustive selection process. Renamed from Bloem Water, the Vaal-Central Water Board is excited to have esteemed individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise from both the public and private sectors in its new board.

The Vaal Central Water Board emphasizes that the newly appointed board members bring a blend of experience and perspectives that will be invaluable in driving the board’s vision forward.

The entity stresses that the board not only aligns with the core values and goals of the Water Board but also resonates with the unique needs of the Northern Cape and the Free State provinces.

With representation from both provinces, the board is well-equipped to address local challenges and ensure efficient water service delivery.

The 12-member board consists of accomplished individuals in their respective fields. The Chairperson is Makhosini Solomon Msibi, with Lungile Right Bomela serving as the Deputy Chairperson. Other members include Luvuyo Xola Ntoyi, Elizabeth Cornelia Rockman, Ntikila Sandlana, Andrew Modisaotsile Rantho, Desmond Solomon Ezekiel Fransman, Matshego Gail Mercy Jele, Boipelo Felicity Nakedi, Advocate Tshepiso Doreen Segoe-Backward, Thabo Moses Manyoni, and Gugulethu Wendy Phakathi.

Notably, four members of the previous board have been retained, ensuring institutional continuity and retaining vital institutional memory.

Water and Sanitation Minister Senzo Mchunu commends the outgoing board members of the Vaal-Central Water Board for facilitating a smooth transition from Bloem Water to the new entity.

He has urged the incoming board to quickly develop and implement plans to address water service challenges in the Northern Cape and the Free State, particularly in previously underserved areas.

Mchunu recently met with both boards to facilitate a seamless handover and inducted the new board members on their roles, responsibilities, and functions.

The reconfiguration of Water Boards aims to expand access to unserved areas, enhance the market capitalization of infrastructure projects, and rectify the skewed supply of water.

The Vaal Central Water Board is committed to driving these goals and ensuring increased access to clean water for all communities.
