Mbali Thandeka Maloka
Odendaalsrus – A community is on high alert as 16-year-old Mbali Thandeka Maloka goes missing, sparking a widespread search operation. Mbali’s concerned mother reported her disappearance to the Free State Police on the 10th of May, 2024 after she vanished without a trace on the evening of the 4th of May. The report was lodged at exactly 15:30, underlining the urgency and worry clouding the Maloka family since Mbali’s unexpected disappearance.
According to Free State Police Captain Stephen Thakeng, the evening took a worrying turn when Mbali, tasked with retrieving laundry from their home’s backyard, failed to return inside. Despite the presence of her younger sister, it became apparent that Mbali did not merely wander off momentarily. The young girl’s mother, retracing her steps, discovered to her dismay that Mbali had scaled the backyard fence and run away, failing to return home since that fateful evening.
Mbali, a Grade 10 pupil at the local Eldoret Secondary School, is known among her peers and teachers for her vibrant spirit. On the day she went missing, she was dressed in a blue jean and a white jersey; a description that the Odendaalsrus and wider community is now familiar with, as efforts to locate her intensify. Her sudden departure not only left her family in despair but also sparked concern amongst residents who are eager for her safe return.
In a bid to gather leads, local authorities have extended their search beyond the immediate vicinity. “The following places were visited: taverns around Odendaalsrus CBD and taverns in Thabong, but all in vain,” remarked Captain Thakeng, highlighting the thorough search conducted thus far. Despite these efforts, the young girl remains missing, prompting an urgent call to the public for any information that could help reunite her with her family.
Detective Sergeant Kankane Leshoro of the Odendaalsrus Detective Services is leading the investigation and urges anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. The public can contact him directly at 082 301 2797 or reach out to the Crime Stop number at 0860010111.
