Harrismith – Two male suspects aged between 37 and 40 are expected to appear before Harrismith Magistrate Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and dealing in dagga, on Tuesday 29 June 2021.
This follows the arrest made by the Harrismith Highway Patrol police officials.
“On the 27 June 2021 at about 19:40, Harrismith Highway Patrol members were patrolling on the R74 conducting stop and search near the entrance of Skerkfontein Dam when they stopped a red sedan with GP registration,” Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele explained.
According to Brigadier Makhele, the vehicle of the two suspects was coming from Bergville in KwaZulu Natal to Gauteng.
After searching both persons and the vehicle, police officials found a Vector Parabellum firearm with one magazine and sixteen rounds in the car.
“The serial numbers on the firearm were filled off. Further search led to the discovery of 51 bags of dagga weighing 233.7kg to an estimated street value of above R200 000,” Brigadier Makhele said.
This is a developing story.
