By Thys Khiba – Two of three males who were shot at the parking area of a Chesanyama in Zamdela Sasolburg on Saturday morning have died, police have confirmed.
This comes after one of the three victims died at the scene, while the second victim succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and the third victim is still in the hospital receiving medical treatment.
Central News could not publish the names of the deceased before we confirm with the affected families.
South African Police Service (SAPS) preliminary investigation confirmed the suspect was spinning his vehicle and randomly firing shots through the driver’s window, which led to three males being shot.
It is alleged that on Saturday at about 01:55, the police were patrolling near Kwa Nduna Chesanyama when they heard gunshots and people screaming.
Free State police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani indicated members of the SAPS noticed a grey Mercedes Benz without registration numbers driving at a high speed from the direction where the gunshots came from.
“The police gave chase and pursued the vehicle until it intercepted. An unknown male alighted from the vehicle carrying a firearm and the police managed to disarm him.
“The police returned to the crime scene and conducted a preliminary investigation, which revealed that the suspect was spinning his vehicle and randomly firing shots through the driver’s window, which led to three unknown males being shot,” said Rani.
The arrested suspect is expected to appear before the Sasolburg Magistrate’s the on Monday, 21 August for double murder and attempted murder at the parking area of a Chesanyama.
He is facing charges of murder, attempted murder, discharge of the firearm in a municipal area, handling of the firearm while under the influence and reckless and negligent driving.
Kwa Nduna Chesanyama has condemned the shooting incident and sent a message of condolences to one of the affected area families.
“Dear customers, we deeply condemn the barbaric incident that occurred on our parking area after closure. Be rest assured that the perpetrator has been apprehended.
We would like to pass our sincerest Condolences to the Radebefamily and friends. We would also like to wish a Speedy recovery to the other victims.”
