Two Nigerian Nationals Arrested for Drug Dealing in Delft, Western Cape

Nigerian Nationals

Two Nigerian nationals were arrested by police on Tuesday in Delft, Western Cape, for drug dealing. Western Cape police spokesperson W/O Joseph Swartbooi confirmed that the suspects, aged 40 and 43, were apprehended with methamphetamine worth nearly R1 million. The arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation by the anti-economic crimes task team, which also revealed a drug production facility and led to additional charges under the Immigration Act.

Major Drug Bust in Delft and Bellville

On Tuesday, 16 April 2025, police from the anti-economic crimes task team acted on intelligence and raided a suspected drug production facility in Delft. “Police members conducted an intelligence-driven operation and detained two Nigerian nationals for dealing in drugs,” Swartbooi stated. Inside the facility, authorities seized 5.3kg of methamphetamine, valued at approximately R795,000. A 43-year-old Nigerian man was arrested on charges of drug dealing and contravening the Immigration Act.

Following this, further investigation directed police to premises in Bellville. “A search led to the recovery of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of R135,000,” Swartbooi reported. A 40-year-old Nigerian woman was detained at the scene for drug dealing and Immigration Act violations. Both suspects are scheduled to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court to face charges related to drug possession and immigration offenses.

Separate Incidents: Firearm and Drug Arrests

In unrelated cases, police arrested two men on Monday and Tuesday for possession of drugs, a firearm, and ammunition. On Monday, public order policing officers searched a property in Christine Court, Ravensmead, after receiving information. They detained a 30-year-old man found with drugs.

The next day, Lentegeur police, during stop-and-search operations, spotted a suspicious man who attempted to flee. “After a foot chase near Pasteurhof, they apprehended him and confiscated a 9mm Z88 pistol with ammunition,” Swartbooi said. The suspect was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Both individuals have appeared in the Goodwood and Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Courts, facing charges including drug possession and illegal firearm possession.
