Bloemfontein, Free State – The Parkweg police in Bloemfontein have announced that two missing girls, 16-year-old Alicia Jacobs and 15-year-old Bernice Bosch, have been found safe and unharmed on a farm in Jacobsdal. The discovery comes after an intense search effort that involved both law enforcement and the local community.
The two girls were reported missing on 2 August 2024 after disappearing from their school in Bloemfontein. Their disappearance sparked widespread concern, with the police and community members working tirelessly to locate them. The police had earlier issued an appeal to the public for assistance in finding the girls, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Thanks to the swift and collaborative efforts of the police and vigilant residents of Mangaung, the girls were found this morning on a farm in the Jacobsdal district. Police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle expressed her gratitude to the community, saying, “Thanks to the swift and collaborative efforts of our dedicated officers and the vigilant members of the public, we are pleased to announce that all the children have been safely found in Jacobsdal on a farm this morning.”
According to Captain Earle, detectives from Jacobsdal followed up on information that led them to the farm where the girls were believed to be hiding. “Police worked around the clock to follow up on information, and this morning detectives from Jacobsdal followed information that they were hiding on a farm in the district. They went to the farm and found the girls unharmed. They will be brought back to the school in Bloemfontein,” she added.
The initial search for Alicia Jacobs and Bernice Bosch was spearheaded by the Parkweg Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS). Investigators, led by Constable Nwabisa Stokwe, pursued leads that suggested the girls might have been in the Kimberley area. However, the trail eventually led them to Jacobsdal, where the girls were ultimately located.
The Parkweg police have commended the community for their invaluable assistance and cooperation during the search. This outcome highlights the power of community involvement in ensuring the safety of vulnerable individuals.
The successful recovery of the girls brings relief to their families, school, and the broader Bloemfontein community. The police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the girls’ disappearance, but for now, the focus is on reuniting them with their families and providing them with the necessary support.
As the investigation continues, the police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. The Parkweg police remain committed to protecting the community and ensuring that such incidents are resolved swiftly and safely.
