The Free State Police have arrested two men for the illegal possession of abalone on the N1 near Trompsburg.
Trompsburg Highway Patrol members were conducting a stop and search on the N1 just outside of Trompsburg in the early hours of Sunday, June 4, 2023, at approximately 04:00.
Spokesperson, Sergeant Martin Xuma says a canopy-equipped white Toyota Hilux was stopped by them. The windows in the canopy were painted. After looking through the rear of the bakkie police found around 53 dark refuse bags loaded up with abalone.
For possessing abalone, two male suspects, aged 31 and 42, were apprehended on their way to Bloemfontein.
“The two are likely to face charges of possessing abalone when they appear before the Trompsburg Magistrate’s Court soon.” said Xuma
