Six Wanted Criminals Dead, Three Arrested in Police Shootout in Inanda

The Ntuzuma police have arrested of two male suspects accused of the attempted murder of an on-duty police officer in Newlands, KwaZulu-Natal.

On Thursday, a police constable found himself under a hail of gunfire as he drove a state vehicle along the junction of Inanda Road and Marbleray Drive. Two assailants emerged from a white Ford Figo, brandishing a weapon and immediately prompting the officer to reverse and seek cover.

In an almost cinematic twist, the attackers re-entered their car, executed a U-turn, and gave chase against the flow of traffic, while continuing to shoot at the fleeing officer. Amidst the chaos, the officer managed to return fire, causing the assailants to abandon their pursuit.

Police spokesperson detailed the incident: “The suspects’ vehicle was circulated and vigilant Ntuzuma police officers spotted the vehicle at the corner of Mswenya and Nyala roads in Ntuzuma.”

According to officials, the keen eyes of the Ntuzuma police paid off when they intercepted the suspects’ Ford Figo. An intense search resulted in the discovery of a firearm with its serial number erased, illicit Gauteng province registration plates, and an assortment of bank cards.

“The vehicle was intercepted and during a subsequent search. The suspects were found in possession of a firearm, whose serial number was erased. Police also found Gauteng province registration plates and several bank cards in the vehicle,” said the police.

The captured suspects, a 20-year-old and a 30-year-old hailing from Ntuzuma, are now in custody. Come Monday, they will face the Durban Magistrate’s Court to answer charges of attempted murder of a police officer and illegal possession of a firearm.
