Sibongile Portia Ngwana
Sibongile Portia Ngwana was reported missing by her family at the Mangaung Police Station on Tuesday, 28 November 2023. After weeks of investigation, two African males, aged 27 and 33, were arrested in connection with her disappearance on Thursday, 04 January 2024. It was revealed that the suspects are foreign nationals.
The investigation led to the discovery of human remains on an open veld near M10 Road. An expert confirmed the remains to be those of a human being, but further forensic tests are needed to determine if they belong to Sibongile Ngwana. Free State Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, urged patience from the community and the family of Ngwana as formal tests are conducted to confirm the identity of the remains.
The multi-disciplinary team handling the investigation is making progress, and additional arrests are anticipated as the investigation continues. The two suspects are currently in custody and are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court in the near future.
