By Karabo Marifi
In a tragic incident on Christmas Eve, a female officer of the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) was fatally shot, allegedly by her partner, at her residence in Lotus Gardens, Pretoria West.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene using the victim’s vehicle but was later apprehended in Limpopo province. The South African Police Service (SAPS) is currently investigating the circumstances leading to this tragedy. The identity of the deceased officer has been withheld pending formal notification of her family. Acting Chief of Police, Deputy Commissioner Nomsa Nhlapho, extended condolences to the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues, urging the public to allow the legal process to take its course in seeking justice for the victim.
This incident has cast a shadow over the festive season for the TMPD, highlighting the ongoing issue of domestic violence within communities. The department has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their colleague and has pledged to support the bereaved family during this difficult time.
The suspect is expected to face charges related to the murder of the TMPD officer. The SAPS continues to investigate the case, and further details will be provided as they become available.
