Truck Driver Falls Victim to Impersonating Police Officers on N1 Road near Ventersburg

In a stunning turn of events on July 27, 2023, an unsuspecting truck driver fell prey to fraudulent individuals posing as law enforcement officers on the N1 Road near Ventersburg.

During his journey towards Kroonstad, the 36-year-old driver was compelled to stop when a white Nissan NP 200, fitted with a blue light, coerced him to a halt.

Two individuals of African descent approached the driver, one aggressively demanding his driver’s license, while the other menacingly brandished a handgun.

The terrified driver was forced back into his truck and swiftly tied up at gunpoint. However, he eventually managed to free himself and sought help from a passerby who took him to the Ventersburg Police Station to report the incident. It was revealed that six Dunlop truck tires had been stolen during the armed robbery.

Local authorities have since launched an investigation to trace these bogus police officers. Detective Warrant Officer Sechaba Mothega, the Ventersburg Detective Services Commander, has been designated as the lead investigator for the case.

If you have any information or leads that may aid in tracking down these criminals, please contact Det W/O Mothega at 082 466 8152 or make use of the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.

This incident serves as a reminder to remain vigilant on the roads and to be cautious when encountering emergency vehicles that seem suspicious.

It is crucial to verify the authenticity of any unmarked vehicle that attempts to pull over drivers using blue lights or other signals.

By staying alert and informed, we can help prevent further crimes and ensure the safety of ourselves and our fellow road users.
