N1 Road in Botlokwa

At least eight people tragically lost their lives in a horrific crash on Saturday evening on the N1 road in Botlokwa, Limpopo. The collision involved a BMW and a Toyota Quantum, resulting in a head-on impact that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including two children, two females, and four males, including both drivers.

Emergency responders promptly arrived at the scene, and injured passengers were swiftly airlifted by helicopter to various hospitals. Among the survivors, one passenger remains in a critical condition, while seven others sustained serious injuries and four suffered minor injuries.

The severity of the accident necessitated the closure of the road, causing disruption and inconvenience for motorists. In light of the distressing incident, MEC for Transport and Community Safety Florence Radzilani expressed her condolences to the grief-stricken families.

“At a time when our province is still recovering from the tragic accident in Musina last week, this incident adds to our collective grief,” said Radzilani.

Acknowledging the long weekend ahead, Radzilani implored people throughout the province to exercise extra caution on the roads. She urged traffic officers to prioritize enforcing regulations to ensure compliance and enhance safety for all travelers.
