Mpumalanga Collision

Delmas, Mpumalanga – A fatal road accident on the R42 near Delmas has left ten people dead and 24 others severely injured.
In the early hours of Monday morning, a tragic collision occurred on the R42 road involving a taxi travelling from Emalahleni and a truck heading towards Bronkhorstspruit. The accident happened at approximately 1 am, as stated by officials from the Mpumalanga Community Safety Department.



Inside the Catastrophic Collision
Eight of the victims who lost their lives were passengers in the taxi, which had departed from Johannesburg. The other two deceased individuals were the driver and a passenger in the truck. The Mpumalanga Community Safety Department confirmed that the two vehicles were involved in a deadly side swipe.
Amongst the 24 seriously injured, 18 were from the truck and six were from the taxi, according to authorities. All the injured were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
Investigation Underway
The cause of this horrifying crash remains undetermined, but an investigation is underway to piece together the sequence of events leading to the incident. Authorities are working diligently to uncover the factors contributing to this tragic accident.
Leaders Share Their Condolences
Reacting to the news, Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, Jackie Macie, expressed profound shock and extended her heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
“It is sad to see so many lives lost in this manner. We appeal to all drivers to be vigilant and considerate while driving,” Macie stated.
She emphasized the importance of safe driving practices and urged all motorists to exercise increased caution on the roads to prevent such devastating tragedies.

This incident is a stark reminder of the critical need for rigorous road safety measures and the constant vigilance required from all road users. South Africa’s roads continue to witness accidents that claim numerous lives each year.
