The recent 26th National Congress of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) has been a topic of discussion and controversy.

However, amidst the concerns and allegations of manipulation, interference, and disregard of processes, Thuthukile Zuma, former ANCYL NYTT Fundraiser, has finally taken to Twitter to extend her congratulations to the newly elected leadership.

Zuma said the congress was far from perfect and had many elements of concern, but she expressed her happiness that the Young Lions finally have a structure in place.

She emphasized her trust in the newly elected leadership and their ability to regain autonomy and rebuild the ANCYL of Peter Mokaba.

Zuma herself was contesting for the position of treasurer-general at the congress. However, she did not meet the required threshold and lost to Zwelo Masilela, who was subsequently elected to the position. Despite her personal defeat, Zuma put aside any bitterness and congratulated the winners.

As the daughter of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, the Minister in the Presidency for youth, women, children, and people with disabilities, and former President Jacob Zuma, Zuma’s support and acknowledgment hold significance within the ANCYL.

Furthermore, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, who was accused of influencing the conference’s outcome, also called for the youth league to reclaim its independence. Mbalula highlighted the importance of allowing young people to decide their own leadership in their own conferences, without interference or disbandment by the ANC.

The newly elected leadership of the ANCYL is as follows:

– President: Collen Malatji

– Deputy President: Phumzile Mgcina

– Secretary General: Mntuwoxolo Ngudle

– 1st Deputy Secretary General: Tsakani Shiviti

– 2nd Deputy Secretary General: Olga Seate

– Treasurer General: Zwelo Masilela
