Free State – Three suspects between the age of 30 and 56 appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court yesterday , where they were facing allegations of fraud, theft and contravention of the public finance management act (PFMA).
They were arrested on Friday, 27 of August 2021 in the early hours of the morning by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Team based in Bloemfontein.
“Their arrests stems from the incident which took place in December 2019, where three officials from the Department of Public Works in Bloemfontein, unlawfully captured and approved the payment to the Company known as Walton Trading Enterprise CC without approval to the estimated amount of R24 million.”said Captain Christopher Singo
“The matter was then reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation for further investigation which culminated to the arrests of the trio.”
“The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Major General Kubandran Moodley welcomed the arrest and commended the outstanding work by the investigating officer. “
