Economic commentator Tshediso Thinane says South Africa does not have an economic problem; it has a political problem.

He further stated, “We have the biggest youth unemployment in the country. In the Free State, it has reached 68%, and with the current trajectory, we might find youth unemployment reaching 100%.”

Thinane says the problem we are facing as a country cannot be segmented into SONAs. “The state of the nation is messed UP; we are the most divided country in the world, where 1% of the population is running 99% of the economy.”

Thinane further said the ANC has deployed people who were problematic in branches to run local economic development in municipalities. “There’s no clear agenda from the ANC on how to approach the issue of economic development.”

Thinane participated in a pre-SONA discussion on Central News The Current Review, Episode 19 on Tuesday. The discussion focused on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s upcoming state of the nation address, which is scheduled for Thursday.
