The Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Ntombizanele Sifuba, attended the Gender Transformation Summit hosted by Speakers’ Forum South Africa. The summit took place from 1-3 August 2023 in Ballito, Kwazulu Natal.
Accompanied by Joseph Machaka, the Secretary to the Legislature, and several honorable members, including Montsheng Tsiu, Lucy Mapena, William Bulwane, Vusi Tshabalala, Lirampele Nanyane, and Thembeni Nxangisa, the Speaker represented the Free State Legislature at this important event.
The summit brought together members of the Speakers Forum, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Speakers of the National Assembly and Legislatures, deputies, Portfolio Committee Chairpersons, relevant Cabinet Ministers, Judiciary SALGA, Civil Society Groups, SADC Parliament, the European Union, Secretaries of Legislatures and Parliament, and support staff.

Members of the Free State Legislature actively participated in various categories of committee work, including Women, Youth & Persons with Disabilities, Agriculture, Land Reform & Rural Development, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Economic Development, Social Development, SCOPA, and Secretaries Forum.
Sifuba concluded the summit by presenting comprehensive and well-organized recommendations during the plenary session.
These recommendations received praise from Mapisa Nqakula, the Speaker of the National Assembly, who stated, “we have made a case for gender mainstreaming across all programs of parliament, legislatures, and government at all levels, fostering synergies between national, provincial, and municipalities.”
