THE NOTION THAT THE ANC MUST BE VOTED OUT FOR IT TO BE REBIRTHED IS FLAWED
When ANC Veteran Cde Kgalema Motlhanthe remarked that the ANC must lose elections so that it must come back more lively, I was annoyed.
In fact, I publicly rebuked those remarks, and I was lambasted for “disrespecting and elder.”
My views remain today. Firstly, there is no scientific evidence that an electoral loss will assist the ANC to renew itself or to over regain electoral support.
In fact, empirical evidence shows that where the ANC lost support, either to splinter parties like COPE, EFF or MKP, it never regained that support. In actual fact, the DA has proven to be a beneficiary of such loss of support.
So, to argue that the ANC must lose electoral support is to advocate for the dominance of the DA, which is therefore anti-revolutionary, and it doesn’t matter who said that.
It has emerged that Cde Jeff Radebe, another elder who has served in the leadership for decades, has called for the ANC to die and be rebirthed. This is against the content of our revolutionary slogans like “ANC Lives. ANC Leads”, and “Viva ANC, Viva”
When comrades are tired of the ANC, they must leave it in peace. We love the ANC, and we have no other home.
It has become habitual for some of our elders to try and bury the ANC alive when they played a practical role in harnessing evil cultures like factionalism, gatekeeping, and buying of members.
The ANC remains the only tool for the advancement of our people, blacks in general, and Africans in particular.
Leaders don’t own the ANC. They lead on behalf of the people and must lead the ANC with humility.
