Every year on July 18, Nelson Mandela International Day encourages people from all walks of life to dedicate 67 minutes towards positively contributing to their communities. From planting trees to assisting the elderly, cleaning up public spaces, or supporting educational initiatives, there is an array of opportunities for individuals to make a difference.
In the spirit of this extraordinary day, the Moti Group, a prominent private investment holding company, seeks to honor the life of Nelson Mandela by donating money to local households and inviting others to share in their excitement. Through their philanthropic arm, Moti Cares, the Group has been involved in numerous charitable endeavors, including providing meals to those in need and supporting vulnerable communities and charities.
Recently, the Group launched the African HERO project, which aims to roll out ready-made schools and healthcare clinics across sub-Saharan Africa using recycled and renovated shipping containers equipped with the latest technologies.
To celebrate Mandela Day, the Moti Group has teamed up with POWER 98.7 FM to give listeners the chance to win a generous prize of R6,700 each. Listeners tuning in on July 18, 2023, will be asked to call in and answer Mandela Day-themed trivia questions throughout the day.
Dondo Mogajane, CEO of the Moti Group, explains, “Philanthropy and community engagement lie at the heart of our ethos at the Moti Group, and Nelson Mandela Day represents the perfect opportunity to honor his example and share some joy with others, particularly in these challenging times for many families. By coming together for this momentous event, we hope to encourage others to join us in celebrating Madiba’s life, his values, and showing kindness towards others.”
In an exciting twist, Mogajane himself will be in the studio during POWER Drive show to offer one final question for a lucky winner to receive the additional grand jackpot cash prize of R46,664. This amount is a poignant tribute to Mandela’s prisoner identification number, ‘46664’, which he was assigned during his time on Robben Island. This creative gesture symbolizes Mandela’s resilience during his imprisonment and draws international attention to the plight of black South Africans.
Mogajane concludes, “In South Africa and beyond, the legacy of Nelson Mandela continues to inspire us to overcome challenges, bridge divides, and work together for a brighter future. Let us all embrace his call to action, embody the values that Nelson Mandela cherished, and dedicate ourselves to making every day a Mandela Day. In this collective effort to build a better world, we can create a legacy that exemplifies the power of compassion, unity, and service to others.”
The Moti Group and POWER 98.7 FM’s collaboration for Mandela Day showcases the significance of giving back to communities and honoring the incredible legacy of Nelson Mandela. Join them on July 18, 2023, for a chance to win and celebrate the values that Madiba cherished.
