The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) wishes the people of South Africa, the continent and the world a joyous Christmas. This day, that is globally celebrated as the birthday of Jesus Christ, has transcended the confines of religious exclusivity to Christianity, and has become a day that brings families together. It also signifies goodwill amongst human beings.
The EFF marks the birth of Jesus Christ as the birth of a Fighter who survived The Massacre Of The Innocents – a King ordered that all boy children under the age of two be executed. The King was highly threatened by the messages he received that a revolutionary was born. Indeed, the revolutionary was born and survived the ordered massacre because he had not yet fulfilled his revolutionary mission. As He lived, He not only recognized the evils of capitalism but fought determinedly against it. It was Jesus Christ who dared to storm into the Temple whipping its leaders, he overturned tables and chairs – he declared that the Temple had been turned into a ‘den of thieves’.
Our country is run in a den by capitalist thieves. While we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ today, let’s take heed of His revolutionary act in restoring the Temple. We must restore our country determinedly and by all means necessarily.
Further, during our celebration of the birth of Fighter Jesus Christ, a revolutionary, we do it in the dire material conditions of landlessness, massive unemployment, poverty, violence, utter despair and hunger. It was Jesus Christ who took bread and fish from a privileged boy, multiplied it so all ate and were satisfied. Let this revolutionary act be a lesson to the privilege to share with the many families in despair. Let us practice goodwill. Ultimately though, this act must signify our commitment to take back our land and the means of production for the benefit of all.
May our Christmas be a reprieve from the daily rolling blackouts, starvation and hopelessness endured by South Africans. May we find solace in family and community, and gather the strength to continue fighting against inequality and the monopoly of wealth which undermines all the values and the purpose of the birth and live of the revolutionary, Jesus Christ.
