When the current Interim Provincial Committee was appointed last year, I was one of the people who exclaimed in anticipation for real unity and renewal for radical change.
Currently, as the ANC in Free State prepares to go to conference, it remains to be seen if the IPC has achieved on its mandate.
The ANC in the Free State is faced with a multiplicity of challenges, which has inevitably spilled into governance, leading to strained service delivery.
The ANC therefore needs a leadership which will be able to navigate through these complex challenges, take bold decisions and be able to take the masses along in such a process.
Currently, I see only one hopeful who can be able to lead a team which can achieve the above.
He is rooted amongst the people, having been involved in the formation of civic organization ls in the late 70s and 80s.
He is a scholar, who has studied Economics and Business Management, a former student activist, and a holder of a certificate in executive leadership.
He has amassed extensive experience in the public service, where he served as, amongst others City Manager as well as Executive Mayor for Mangaung, National Chairperson of SALGA, Member of Parliament and (currently) Chairperson of the Municipal Demarcation Board. This experience is necessary to fix governance at both spheres of government.
To navigate through these complex challenges we need political sobriety, sekolo, political experience, wisdom, maturity, massive knowledge and understanding of critical legislation and policies, and more importantly, understanding of the ANC traditions, resolutions and policies.
I am convinced, after spending mpths in search of a credible candidate, that Cde Thabo Manyoni can be a great Chairperson of the ANC during this epoch.
Makhele is an ANC member and an African Marxist. He writes what he likes
