By Thys Khiba– The former Provincial Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West province, Supra Mahumapelo has withdrawn and wants the elective provincial conference taking place in Rustenburg invalidated.
This comes after some disgruntled party members from the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda region successfully interdicted members of the Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) from voting in the conference.
Mahumapelo decided to leave the party provincial conference chairperson race due to allegations of compromised credentials, as one of his claims.
His supporters within the party believes that they have a strong case and have launched a court application to have the proceedings nullified.
Delegates are now expected to elect a new provincial chairperson between Bushy Maape and Nono Maloyi as the two candidates appears as strong competitors for the position.
Members of the Interim Provincial Committee (IPC) are still expected to not vote in the party provincial elective conference.
The party NEC member Obed Bapela confirmed at least 20 votes will be withdrawn from the conference and ICP members’ status remains as ‘non-voting delegate.
While addressing members of the ANC, deputy president David Mabuza indicated the party has never faced the challenges it currently faces.
