Sekhukhune United and Chippa United played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane during their Betway Premiership clash on Wednesday night. In a game filled with fast-paced action, both teams showcased their strengths, but neither could claim all three points.
The match began with Chippa United taking the lead early on. Bienvenu Eva Nga netted a well-taken header in the 7th minute, giving the visitors an early advantage. Despite being caught off guard, Sekhukhune United fought back, showing resilience as they sought an equaliser before halftime.
Sekhukhune came out with renewed energy in the second half, and it wasn’t long before they got back on level terms. Keletso Makgalwa found the back of the net in the 49th minute, following a well-executed free kick. His glancing header past the Chippa defence brought the match to 1-1.
The momentum seemed to swing in favour of Sekhukhune, especially when Chippa United were reduced to 10 men after Sergio Kammies received his second yellow card shortly before the hour mark. However, despite the numerical advantage, Sekhukhune could not capitalise, and Chippa’s defence held firm for the remainder of the game. Sekhukhune dominated possession but struggled to unlock Chippa’s backline.
The game ended 1-1, with both teams earning a point. Sekhukhune will be frustrated at not securing the win, especially after playing against 10 men for much of the second half. Chippa United, on the other hand, will be relieved to have held on for the draw.
This result leaves Sekhukhune United in a slightly better position, while Chippa United will hope to improve as the season progresses. Babina Noko’s next fixture will be crucial to keep pace in the tightly contested Betway Premiership .
