Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns keep their spot at the top of the Betway Premiership table after Sekhukhune United slipped up with a 1-0 loss to Siwelele FC on Friday night. The match at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein saw Siviwe Magidigidi score the only goal in the 74th minute, handing Siwelele a vital win and stopping Sekhukhune from jumping above the log leaders. This result shows the tight race in the South African top flight, where every point counts in the chase for the title. Fans and experts are buzzing about how this could shape the season, with Sundowns still unbeaten and looking strong.
Late Strike Seals Victory for Siwelele
The game was a tense affair, with both teams fighting hard for control. Sekhukhune United came into the match hoping to close the gap on Sundowns, but Siwelele had other plans. The breakthrough came in the 74th minute when Siviwe Magidigidi found the net with a well-taken goal, sending the home crowd into wild cheers. Magidigidi, a product of the SuperSport United academy, combined with teammate Aphiwe Baliti for the winner, showing great skill and teamwork.
Siwelele, also known as Bloemfontein Celtic or by their nickname “Siwelele,” played a solid defensive game to hold off Sekhukhune’s attacks. The visitors had chances but could not find the back of the net, leaving them frustrated. This win moves Siwelele up the table, giving them a boost in their fight to stay in the top half.
The match happened on 31 October 2025, starting at 19:30 local time, and drew a good crowd at the historic Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium. Named after a former Bloemfontein Celtic owner, the venue has seen many big moments in South African football.
How the Result Affects the PSL Standings
With this loss, Sekhukhune United stay in second place with 20 points from 10 matches, behind Sundowns who have a perfect 30 points from 10 wins. A win would have put them level or even ahead, but now Sundowns have a comfy lead. Kaizer Chiefs sit third with 19 points, followed by Orlando Pirates on 18 and Durban City on 17.
Siwelele climb to 11 points from 11 matches, moving away from the bottom and showing they can beat top teams. The table is tight in the middle, with teams like Polokwane, AmaZulu, and TS Galaxy all close behind.
This result keeps the pressure on Sundowns, who play next against Cape Town City. Sekhukhune will look to bounce back in their upcoming game, while Siwelele hope to build on this upset.
Player Performances and Key Moments
Siviwe Magidigidi was the hero for Siwelele, scoring his goal with a sharp finish after good build-up play. Aphiwe Baliti’s assist was key, showing why the team counts on their young talents. Sekhukhune’s defence held firm for most of the game, but a late slip cost them dearly.
The match was clean, with no big injuries or red cards reported. Both coaches praised their teams’ efforts, with Siwelele’s boss happy with the three points and Sekhukhune’s looking ahead to fix their finishing.
