Mamelodi Sundowns vs TS Galaxy

Mpumalanga – Mamelodi Sundowns have taken a significant step towards making South African football history by drawing 1-1 with TS Galaxy. The encounter, held at the Mbombela Stadium, saw the Brazilians move within one game of an unbeaten league season.

Heated Affair

The match, described by many as a heated affair, witnessed tensions flaring post-final whistle, necessitating police intervention to separate the camps of TS Galaxy and Mamelodi Sundowns. A visible altercation took place between Sundowns’ coach Rulani Mokwena and Galaxy’s Sead Ramovic.

Quest for an Unbeaten Season

Masandawana, as Sundowns are fondly known, are now on the brink of becoming the first club in South African football history to complete a season without a single defeat. Only Cape Town City stand in their way in what promises to be an epic final showdown.

Post-Match Reactions

Sead Ramovic did not hold back post-match, humorously suggesting that Sundowns should sign global superstar players like Messi, Mbappe, and CR7, while also advising Rulani Mokwena to “further his coaching badges”. On the other hand, Mokwena, clearly frustrated, remarked, “I think it’s the worst game of football I have ever been involved in from a lot of aspects.”

Moving Up the Table

TS Galaxy, known as the Rockets, have managed to pull one point clear of SuperSport United in fourth place, extending their undefeated streak to five games. This result gives them a healthy advantage over Matsatsantsa, Sekhukhune United, and Cape Town City, as they aim to cement their fourth spot in the standings.

Thrilling Match Action

The match began dynamically. Galaxy threatened early with a strike from distance in the 5th minute, easily dealt with by Sundowns’ Ronwen Williams. Masandawana responded when Lesiba Nku’s volley went narrowly wide in the 13th minute. Williams was again crucial midway through the first half, making an important save, and later, Fiacre Ntwari parried a powerful shot from Rivaldo Coetzee.

The teams went into the break deadlocked, but Sundowns came close to scoring just after half-time when Tashreeq Matthews blazed over the crossbar. The visitors continued pressing with Mothobi Mvala and Aubrey Modiba having chances, but it was TS Galaxy who broke the deadlock in the 78th minute through Puso Dithejane, taking advantage of a clever pass from Samukelo Kabini.

Peter Shalulile, a consistent saviour for Sundowns, levelled the score in the 85th minute, preserving Masandawana’s quest for an unbeaten season alive.
