Stubborn Royal AM Hold Kaizer Chiefs to a Goalless Draw at FNB Stadium

Royal AM and Kaizer Chiefs

In a DStv Premiership match held at the iconic FNB Stadium on Saturday evening, Kaizer Chiefs were unable to find the back of the net against a determined Royal AM side, resulting in a 0-0 draw.

Despite the stalemate, Amakhosi managed to climb up to the fourth spot on the league standings, surpassing their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates. Their next challenge will be against SuperSport United on Wednesday.

On the other hand, Royal AM’s impressive performance in Johannesburg saw them rise to the fifth spot in the standings. They will now face Sekhukhune United in their upcoming match on Wednesday.

Right from the start, Thwihli Thwahla fearlessly attacked Amakhosi with great numbers, but the hosts posed a threat on the counterattack. A quick break saw Ashley du Preez narrowly missing the target, hitting the side-netting in the 17th minute.

In the 27th minute, Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen was called into action and made a crucial diving save, denying Hopewell Cele from scoring. The visitors also had an opportunity to take the lead when Edson Castillo’s long-range effort hit the crossbar in the 33rd minute. At halftime, the score remained 0-0.

After the break, Amakhosi displayed a stronger performance and came close to scoring their first goal when Jasond Gonzalez’s looping header was spectacularly tipped over the crossbar by goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo in the 65th minute.

The hosts continued to press for a late winner, with Christian Saile hitting the crossbar from close range in the 71st minute. Mduduzi Shabala, a substitute, forced Man of the Match Ngcobo into making an excellent save from the rebound. Despite their best efforts, the match ultimately ended in a goalless draw.
