Stellenbosch FC vs Kaizer Chiefs

Stellenbosch FC have announced that their game against Kaizer Chiefs at Athlone Stadium has been sold out, with tickets for the Betway Premiership opener snapping up quickly ahead of the Sunday clash.
The Maroon Army, as Stellenbosch FC fans are known, shared the news on their official channels on Friday morning, 8 August 2025, warning supporters that no more tickets would be available at the gate. “Tickets for Sunday’s #BetwayPrem encounter against @kcfcofficial have been sold out ‍♂️ Strictly no tickets will be sold at the gate,” the club posted on Instagram, urging fans without tickets to stay home and watch the game on TV. The match, set for 10 August 2025 at 17:30, marks the start of the 2025/26 season for both teams in South Africa’s top football league, now sponsored by Betway.
Athlone Stadium in Cape Town, with a full capacity of 30,000, had only 26,000 tickets on sale due to safety and seating limits. Priced at just R80 each, the tickets flew off the shelves through outlets like Webtickets, reflecting the huge excitement around this fixture. Fans started queuing early, and by Friday afternoon, all were gone, leaving many disappointed but eager to catch the action on screens.
This sell-out shows the pulling power of Kaizer Chiefs, known as Amakhosi, who have a massive following across the country. Even though the game is in Cape Town, far from their Soweto base, Chiefs fans are expected to fill much of the stands, creating a lively atmosphere. One fan account posted, “Kaizer Chiefs isn’t just a club — it’s a movement. From Soweto to the smallest towns, home is everywhere because Amakhosi lives everywhere ✌️❤️. Stellenbosch FC vs Kaizer Chiefs — SOLD OUT.” Social media buzzed with reactions, from joy to frustration, with posts gaining thousands of views and likes in hours.
Stellenbosch FC, or Stellies, finished third last season and are looking to build on that under coach Steve Barker. They have a strong home record in the Western Cape and see this as a chance to start strong against a big name. Kaizer Chiefs, meanwhile, are kicking off their 56th season with high hopes under new coach Nasreddine Nabi, who joined from Morocco. The team flew to Cape Town for final preparations, aiming to end a long trophy drought.
