Eskom
Eskom, South Africa’s state-owned power utility, has revealed that Stage 5 loadshedding will persist due to the unexpected loss of four additional generation units overnight.
The power cuts are set to occur between 10:00 and 16:00 today, leaving many citizens and businesses grappling with limited access to electricity.
The announcement follows Eskom’s previous declaration on Monday, where Stage 5 loadshedding was introduced from 22:00 until 05:00 today. This measure was taken to replenish pumped storage dam levels during nighttime and ensure sufficient reserves for emergency generation. After this period, Stage 4 loadshedding would resume from 05:00 on Tuesday until further notice.
However, despite the initial plan to revert to Stage 4 loadshedding, Eskom now informs the public that Stage 5 will continue as the company struggles to rectify the persistent challenges in its power supply.
