South Africa is eagerly awaiting the arrival of delegates for the 15th BRICS Summit, with Police Minister Bheki Cele ensuring law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to ensure their safety and comfort.
During a recent address to officers assigned to the event, Cele emphasized the importance of creating a memorable stay for visitors from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Cele expressed confidence and reassured the officers that there is no reason to fear, reminding them that their primary duty is to protect and serve.

He encouraged them to approach their tasks with friendly attitudes, not only to maintain security but also to showcase South Africa’s warmth and hospitality. Cele stressed the significance of being ambassadors for the country during this global gathering.
In order to ensure the safety of BRICS delegates, several law enforcement agencies including the South African Police Service, Johannesburg Metro Police Department, Ekhuruleni Metro Police Department, and members of the South African National Defense Force have been deployed strategically.
Cele commended the progress of Operation Shanela, an initiative aimed at combating crime, revealing that the police have already made nearly 100,000 arrests.
Considering the attendance of over 40 heads of state, government representatives, and local and international dignitaries, this summit holds immense importance for South Africa.
The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) has expressed full confidence in the country’s ability to successfully host the event. Security measures have been intensified to prevent opportunistic crimes and to guarantee the safety of all participants.
